Casio module 5001

Quartz module. 5001 is the number engraved on the caseback of these watches, and Casio files its operation manual under it. 1 watch in the catalog runs on it.

How to operate module 5001

Short steps in our words. The buttons are lettered as in Casio's operation guide, where each task's page is given.

Set the digital time and date

  1. Pick your Home City code first (see Home City): the Timekeeping and World Time times are linked.
  2. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A until the seconds flash.
  3. Press C to step through the settings: seconds, city code, DST, hour, minutes, year, month, then day.
  4. On the seconds, press D to reset them to 00.
  5. On the hour, minutes, year, month or day, press D to go up or B to go down.
  6. Press A to exit the setting screen.
  7. If the hands do not show the same time as the digital display, set them in the Edit Mode (see hand setting).

Good to know

The digital and analog times are set separately.

Resetting the seconds while they count 30 to 59 adds one minute; from 00 to 29 the minutes stay as they are.

The year runs from 2000 to 2099; the day of the week follows the date by itself.

In most cases, holding D or B scrolls fast.

Left for two or three minutes without a button press, the watch saves the settings and leaves the setting screen by itself.

12-hour or 24-hour format is picked in the Edit Mode: press C until EDIT shows, press D until HOUR shows, then press A to switch between 12H and 24H. In 12-hour format, P marks p.m.

In the Timekeeping Mode, press D to switch between the Time/Day and the Day/Time screens.

Summer time

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A until the seconds flash.
  2. Press C twice to show the DST setting.
  3. Press D to switch between ON (summer time) and OF (standard time).
  4. Press A to exit the setting screen.

Good to know

Summer time moves the digital time one hour ahead. The DST indicator shows in the Timekeeping, Alarm and Edit modes while it is on.

For a World Time city: in the World Time Mode, press D until the city code shows, then hold A for about one second to switch it between summer time (DST indicator shown) and standard time. This changes only that city and does not work on the Home City code.

From Casio's guide, page 1

Home City

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A until the seconds flash.
  2. Press C once: the city code flashes.
  3. Press D (east) or B (west) until your city code shows.
  4. Press A to exit the setting screen.

Good to know

To see the current Home City code, press A in the Timekeeping Mode.

The city codes are in the City Code Table on page 3, with other major cities in each time zone.

  1. Press C until the Alarm Mode shows (AL-1 to AL-5 or SIG), after the World Time Mode.
  2. Press D until the alarm you want to set shows, AL-1 to AL-5.
  3. Hold A until the hour flashes; this also switches the alarm on.
  4. Press D to go up or B to go down; press C to switch between the hour and the minutes. In 12-hour format, P marks p.m.
  5. Press A to exit the setting screen, and check that ON shows (press A if it shows OF).
  6. Press C until the Timekeeping Mode shows.

Good to know

Each alarm sounds daily for about 10 seconds, in any mode; press any button to stop it.

Hourly time signal: in the Alarm Mode, press D until SIG shows, then press A to switch it on or off.

To test the alarm, hold D in the Alarm Mode. The beeper pattern (A, B or C) is picked in the Edit Mode.

Left for two or three minutes without a button press in the Alarm Mode, the watch goes back to the Timekeeping Mode by itself.

Set the analog hands

  1. Press C until the Edit Mode shows (EDIT, after the Countdown Timer Mode).
  2. Press D until H.SET shows.
  3. Hold A until the digital time flashes.
  4. Press D to move the hands forward 20 seconds at a time; hold D to move them fast, until they match the digital time.
  5. Press A to exit the setting screen.
  6. Press C to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Good to know

Do this when the hands do not show the same time as the digital display.

To move the hands a long way, hold D until they move fast, then press B: they keep moving after you let go, until you press any button, they have moved 12 hours, or an alarm, the time signal or the timer beeper sounds.

When you exit, the watch moves the minute hand slightly to match its seconds count.

Resetting the Edit Mode settings to their defaults does not change the hand setting.

Light

  1. Press B to light the display for about two seconds.

Good to know

The light does not work while a setting screen is on the display.

It goes off by itself when an alarm sounds, and may be hard to see in direct sunlight.

From Casio's guide, page 3

Button tone

  1. Press C until the Edit Mode shows (EDIT, after the Countdown Timer Mode).
  2. Press D until KEY♪ shows.
  3. Press A to switch the button tone on (ON) or off (OF).
  4. Press C to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Good to know

The alarms, the hourly time signal and the timer beeper still sound with the button tone off.

To put all Edit Mode settings back to their defaults (button tone ON, beeper pattern A, 12H, 00-second animation ON), hold B and D in the Edit Mode for about three seconds until RST flashes and the watch beeps.

  1. Press C until the Stopwatch Mode shows (STW, after the Alarm Mode).
  2. Press D to start, D to stop, and D again to carry on.

  5. Two finishes: press D to start, A when the first finishes, D when the second finishes, read the first time, press A to see the second, then A to clear.
  6. Press C until the Timekeeping Mode shows.

Good to know

It counts in 1/100 seconds up to 59 minutes 59.99 seconds, then starts again from zero until you stop it.

It keeps running when you leave the Stopwatch Mode; leaving while a split shows clears the split.

Countdown timer

  1. Press C until the Countdown Timer Mode shows (TMR, after the Stopwatch Mode).
  2. If the start time does not show, pause the countdown with D if it is running, then press A to put it back to the start time.
  3. Hold A until the hour flashes.
  4. Press C to step through the hours, minutes and auto-repeat. On the hours or minutes, press D to go up or B to go down; on auto-repeat, press D to switch it ON or OF.
  5. Press A to exit the setting screen.
  6. Press D to start. To pause, press D; press D again to carry on, or A while paused to go back to the start time.
  7. Press C until the Timekeeping Mode shows.

Good to know

The start time can be one minute to 24 hours; for 24 hours, set 0:00.

At zero the beeper sounds for 10 seconds; press any button to stop it. The timer then goes back to its start time by itself.

With auto-repeat on, the countdown starts again from the start time at zero without stopping; its indicator shows in the Countdown Timer Mode. Frequent use runs down the battery.

The countdown keeps running when you leave the Countdown Timer Mode.
