Watch Catalog

Casio module 5230

Solar powered module. 5230 is the number engraved on the caseback of these watches, and Casio files its operation manual under it. 1 watch in the catalog runs on it.

How to operate module 5230

Short steps in our words. The buttons are lettered as in Casio's operation guide, where each task's page is given.

Set the time and date

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A for about two seconds until ADJ shows, then release it: the city code scrolls across and the hands move out of the way.
  2. Press C to step through the settings: city code, DST, 12/24-hour format, seconds, hour, minute, year, month, day, then button tone, illumination duration and Power Saving.
  3. On the seconds, press D to reset them to 00.
  4. On the hour, minute, year, month or day, press D to go up and B to go down.
  5. On the city code, press D to move east or B to move west; on DST, press D to cycle through AUTO, OFF and ON.
  6. On the 12/24-hour format, press D to switch between 12H and 24H.
  7. Press A to leave the setting mode; the hands move to match the digital time.

Good to know

The watch sets itself from the radio time signal where it can receive one. To receive now, in the Timekeeping Mode hold D until the watch beeps, with 12 o'clock facing a window, and leave it alone until GET or ERR shows.

Set the Home City first: signal reception and the World Time depend on it.

In 12-hour format, PM marks p.m.; a.m. has no indicator.

From Casio's guide, page E-48

Daylight saving time

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A for about two seconds until ADJ shows, then release it.
  2. Press C to reach the DST setting.
  3. Press D to cycle through AUTO, OFF (standard time) and ON (summer time).
  4. Press A to go back to the Timekeeping Mode. The DST indicator shows while summer time is on.

Good to know

AUTO is offered only for a Home City that receives a time signal; the watch then switches by the signal.

With HKG or BJS as the Home City, the signal sets only the time and date, so switch DST by hand if needed.

DST cannot be switched while UTC is the Home City.

From Casio's guide, page E-45

Home City

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A for about two seconds until ADJ shows, then release it: the city code and name scroll across.
  2. Press D to move east or B to move west through the city codes.
  3. Press A to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Good to know

A time off by hours may mean the wrong Home City.

The Home City goes back to TYO when the battery drops to Level 5 or is replaced; set it again.

Set an alarm

  1. Press C until the Alarm Mode shows (ALM).

  5. Press A to leave the setting mode.
  6. If the alarm ON/OFF indicator is off, press A to turn the alarm on.

Good to know

The alarm sounds for about 10 seconds; press any button to stop it.

To go back to the Timekeeping Mode from any mode, hold C for at least four seconds.

Realign the hands

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A for about five seconds: ADJ shows first, keep holding until H.SET shows, then release. The hands move to 12 o'clock.
  2. If the hour and minute hands are not both exactly at 12 o'clock, press D or B to move them there (hold for fast; press any button to stop the fast movement).
  3. Press A to go back to the Timekeeping Mode, then check that the hands match the digital time; repeat if they do not.

Good to know

Hands go off after strong magnetism or a hard knock. If they are only parked for reading (HANDS shows), hold C for about two seconds until HAND shows instead.

  2. To switch the auto light on or off (it lights the face when you tilt the watch towards you in the dark), hold B for about three seconds in the Timekeeping Mode.
  3. To change the duration: in the Timekeeping Mode hold A until ADJ shows, release it, then press C until LT1 or LT3 shows.
  4. Press D to switch between 1.5 seconds (LT1) and three seconds (LT3), then A to leave.

Good to know

The auto light switch turns itself off when the battery drops to Level 4.

Frequent use of the light runs down the battery.
