Casio module 5571

Solar powered module. 5571 is the number engraved on the caseback of these watches, and Casio files its operation manual under it. 2 watches in the catalog run on it.

How to operate module 5571

Short steps in our words. The buttons are lettered as in Casio's operation guide, where each task's page is given.

Set the time and date

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, loosen the screw-lock crown by turning it towards you, then pull it out: CITY flashes.
  2. Press D: HOUR-MIN flashes and the second hand points to A (a.m.) or P (p.m.).
  3. Turn the crown to set the minutes.
  4. Press B: HOUR flashes. Turn the crown to set the hour, checking A or P.
  5. Press B: the year flashes. Turn the crown to set it.
  6. Press B: the month and day flash. Turn the crown to set them.
  7. Push the crown back in (timekeeping starts from 0 seconds), then screw it in.

Good to know

Set the time by hand only when the watch cannot receive a time signal. Set the Home City first.

The watch sets itself from the time signal for LON, PAR, ATH, HKG, TYO, NYC, CHI, DEN, LAX, ANC and HNL, up to six times a night between midnight and 5 a.m. (five for China), while left in the Timekeeping Mode.

Manual receive: press B until the Receive Mode shows (R/C), then hold A for at least two seconds until RC! shows; keep the watch still with its 12 o'clock side towards a window for the two to ten minutes it takes (up to 20). GET shows when it worked, ERR when it failed.

12/24-hour format: in the Timekeeping Mode pull out the crown, press B five times (12H or 24H flashes), turn the crown to pick one, then push the crown back in.

In 12-hour format, P marks noon to 11:59 p.m. and A midnight to 11:59 a.m.

Turning the crown fast starts high-speed movement; turn it the other way or press any button to stop it.

If you do nothing for more than two minutes with the crown out, the crown stops working; push it in and pull it out again.

From any mode, hold B for about two seconds to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Always screw the crown back in to keep the watch water resistant.

Daylight saving time

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, loosen the crown and pull it out: CITY flashes.
  2. Press B: the DST setting shows.
  3. Turn the crown away from you to step through AUTO (Auto DST), OFF (standard time) and ON (summer time).
  4. Push the crown back in and screw it in.

Good to know

AUTO can be picked only for a Home City that receives a time signal; with it, the watch changes the setting from the signal.

The DST indicator shows while summer time is on.

Summer time cannot be switched while UTC is the Home City.

If the time is one hour off where no signal can be received, the Home City DST setting may need changing by hand.

For a World Time city: in the World Time Mode, pull out the crown, turn it to pick the city, press B, turn the crown to pick ON or OFF, then push it back in. This changes only that city and cannot be done for UTC.

From Casio's guide, page E-34

Home City

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, loosen the crown and pull it out: CITY flashes.
  2. Turn the crown to move the second hand to the code of your city.
  3. Press B to see the DST setting and turn the crown to change it if needed.
  4. Push the crown back in and screw it in.

Good to know

The city codes are in the City Code Table at the back of the manual.

If the time is off by hours, the Home City may be wrong.

When the battery falls to Level 5 or is replaced, the Home City goes back to TYO (Tokyo); set it again.

With TYO as the Home City, the units are fixed to meters, hPa and Celsius.

To swap the Home City and the World Time city, hold D for at least three seconds in the World Time Mode.

From Casio's guide, page E-34

Set an alarm

  1. Press B until the Alarm Mode shows (ALARM, after the Countdown Timer Mode).
  2. Press A or C until the alarm you want shows, AL1 to AL5.
  3. Loosen the crown and pull it out: the alarm time flashes.
  4. Turn the crown to set the minutes; the hour changes with them.
  5. Press B and turn the crown to set the hour. In 12-hour format, mind A (a.m.) or P (p.m.).
  6. Push the crown back in and screw it in. Setting an alarm time switches that alarm on.
  7. Hold B for about two seconds to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Good to know

Each alarm sounds for about 10 seconds every day at the set time, in any mode; press any button to stop it.

To switch an alarm or the hourly time signal (SIG) on or off, pick it with A or C in the Alarm Mode and press D.

The alarm on indicator shows in all modes while any alarm is on.

In the Alarm Mode, hold A to test the alarm.

Left for about three minutes without a button press, the Alarm Mode goes back to the Timekeeping Mode by itself.

Realign the hands

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, loosen the crown and pull it out.
  2. Hold A for at least five seconds until HAND SET flashes and then HAND ADJ shows.
  3. Wait until all the hands have moved to 12 o'clock.
  4. Push the crown back in: the hands return to their normal positions. Screw the crown in.
  5. In the Timekeeping Mode, check that the hands show the same time as the display; if not, do it again.

Good to know

Strong magnetism or impact can put the hands out of line with the digital time; the watch also adjusts them by itself from time to time.

Pushing the crown in before every hand is at 12 o'clock does not adjust them.

To move the hands out of the way of the display, hold L and press B: they move to 2 o'clock. Press A, B, C or D to bring them back; they come back by themselves after about 10 seconds.

From Casio's guide, page E-39

Light

  1. Press L in any mode to light the display.
  2. To change the duration: in the Timekeeping Mode, pull out the crown, press B four times (LIGHT shows), turn the crown to pick 1 (1.5 seconds) or 3 (three seconds), then push the crown back in.
  3. Auto light (the display lights when you tilt the watch towards you by more than 40 degrees): in the Timekeeping Mode, pull out the crown, press B three times (AUTO shows), turn the crown to pick ON or OFF, then push the crown back in.

Good to know

Screw the crown back in after each setting.

The auto light works only when it is dark enough, and not in the Digital Compass Mode, while a tone sounds, during signal reception or while the hands move. It turns itself off when the battery falls to Level 4.

Turn the auto light off before riding a bicycle or a motorcycle or driving.

The light goes off when an alarm sounds or when you use the crown. Frequent use runs down the battery.

  2. Press B twice: KEY♪ or MUTE flashes.
  3. Turn the crown to pick KEY♪ (tone on) or MUTE (tone off).
  4. Push the crown back in and screw it in.

Good to know

From Casio's guide, page E-99

Stopwatch

  1. Press B until the Stopwatch Mode shows (STW, after the Data Recall Mode).
  2. Press A to start, A to stop, and A again to carry on.
  3. When it is stopped, press C to reset it to zero.
  4. For a split time, press C while it runs (SP shows); press C again to release it.
  5. For two finishes: start with A, press C when the first finishes, A when the second finishes, then C to see the second time and C again to reset.
  6. Hold B for about two seconds to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Good to know

It counts up to 23 hours 59 minutes 59.99 seconds and keeps running in other modes.

Leaving the Stopwatch Mode while a split time shows clears the split time from the display.

From Casio's guide, page E-84

Countdown timer

  1. Press B until the Countdown Timer Mode shows (TIMER, after the Stopwatch Mode).
  2. Loosen the crown and pull it out: the minutes flash.
  3. Turn the crown to set the minutes; for 60 minutes, set 00'00.
  4. Push the crown back in and screw it in.
  5. Press A to start, A to stop and A to carry on; when it is stopped, press C to reset it to the start time.
  6. Hold B for about two seconds to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Good to know

An alarm sounds for 10 seconds at zero, in any mode; press any button to stop it. The countdown then goes back to the start time by itself.

The watch does not receive the time signal while a countdown is running.
