Casio module 5606

Quartz module. 5606 is the number engraved on the caseback of these watches, and Casio files its operation manual under it. 3 watches in the catalog run on it.

How to operate module 5606

Short steps in our words. The buttons are lettered as in Casio's operation guide, where each task's page is given.

Set the digital time and date

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A for at least two seconds until the seconds flash.
  2. Press C until the setting you want flashes. The order is: seconds, DST, Home City code, hour, minutes, 12/24-hour format, year, month, day, light duration, then back to the seconds.
  3. On the seconds, press D to reset them to 00.
  4. On the hour, minutes, year, month or day, press D to go up or B to go down.
  5. On the 12/24-hour format, press D to switch between 12H and 24H.
  6. Press A to leave the setting screen.
  7. Set the hands to match the digital time in the Hand Setting Mode (see Match the hands to the digital time).

Good to know

The digital time and the hands are set separately.

In 12-hour format, P marks p.m.; no indicator shows for a.m.

The day of the week follows the date by itself.

Holding B or D while a setting flashes scrolls fast in most cases.

Left for two or three minutes without a button press, the watch leaves the setting screen by itself.

From Casio's guide, page E-15

Daylight saving time

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A for at least two seconds until the seconds flash.
  2. Press C once: the DST setting shows.
  3. Press D to switch between On (daylight saving time) and OF (standard time).
  4. Press A to go back to the Timekeeping Mode. The DST indicator shows while daylight saving time is on.
  5. Set the hands to match the digital time in the Hand Setting Mode.

Good to know

For a World Time city: in the World Time Mode, press D until the city code shows, then hold A for at least two seconds to switch it between daylight saving time (DST indicator shown) and standard time. This cannot be done while GMT is picked.

Changing the DST of your Home City code in the World Time Mode also changes it in the Timekeeping Mode.

If the time is one hour off, the DST setting may need to be changed.

From Casio's guide, page E-14

Home City

  1. In the Timekeeping Mode, hold A for at least two seconds until the seconds flash.
  2. Press C twice: the city code flashes.
  3. Press D (east) or B (west) until your city code shows.
  4. Press A to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.
  5. Set the hands to match the digital time in the Hand Setting Mode.

Good to know

The city codes are in the City Code Table at the back of the manual.

The World Time Mode works out the time of the other zones from the Home City time, so set the Home City, the time and the date correctly.

If the time is off by hours, the Home City setting may be wrong.

Set an alarm

  1. Press C until the Alarm Mode shows (after the Stopwatch Mode).
  2. Press D until the alarm you want shows: AL1 to AL4 (daily alarms) or SNZ (snooze alarm).
  3. Hold A for at least two seconds until the alarm time flashes.
  4. Press D to go up or B to go down to set the hour; press C to move to the minutes and set them the same way. In 12-hour format, mind a.m. (no indicator) or p.m. (P).
  5. Press A to leave the setting screen.
  6. Check the display: On or OF shows above the alarm time. If it shows OF, press A to switch the alarm on (each press switches it on or off).
  7. Press C until the Timekeeping Mode shows.

Good to know

When an alarm sounds, press any button to stop it.

The snooze alarm sounds up to seven times, every five minutes, until you switch it off; opening the Timekeeping setting screen or the SNZ setting screen between snoozes stops it.

Hourly time signal: in the Alarm Mode, press D until SIG shows, then press A to switch it on or off.

The alarm on, snooze alarm and hourly time signal indicators show in all modes while they are on.

In the Alarm Mode, hold D to test the alarm sound.

  1. Press C until the Hand Setting Mode shows (H-SET, after the Alarm Mode).
  2. Hold A until the digital time flashes.
  3. Press D to move the hands 20 seconds forward; hold D to move them fast.
  4. To move them a long way, hold D until the hands move fast, then press B: they keep moving fast after you let go, until you press any button.
  5. Press A to leave the setting screen; the minute hand adjusts itself slightly to the seconds count.
  6. Press C to go back to the Timekeeping Mode.

Good to know

Do this after changing the digital time, the DST setting or the Home City.

Locked fast movement stops by itself after 12 hours or when an alarm, the hourly time signal or the countdown beeper starts to sound.

From Casio's guide, page E-34

Good to know

The light goes off by itself when an alarm sounds.

It may be hard to see in direct sunlight.

Stopwatch

  1. Press C until the Stopwatch Mode shows (STW, after the Countdown Timer Mode).

  5. For two finishes: start with D, press A when the first finishes, D when the second finishes, then A to see the second time and A again to reset.
  6. Press C until the Timekeeping Mode shows.

Good to know

It counts in 1/100 seconds up to 59 minutes 59.99 seconds.

It keeps running when you leave the Stopwatch Mode, but a split time on the display is not shown again when you come back.

From Casio's guide, page E-28

Countdown timer

  1. Press C until the Countdown Timer Mode shows (TMR, after the World Time Mode).
  2. If a countdown is running, press D to stop it, then press A to reset it, so the start time shows.
  3. Hold A until the start time flashes.
  4. Press D to go up or B to go down, 1 to 60 minutes.
  5. Press C to move to auto-repeat and press D to switch it on or off; press C again for the progress beeper and press D to switch it ON or OF.
  6. Press A to leave the setting screen.
  7. Press D to start; D stops and resumes it. When it is stopped, press A to reset it to the start time.
  8. Press C until the Timekeeping Mode shows.

Good to know

At zero the alarm sounds for about 10 seconds; press any button to stop it. With the progress beeper on, it sounds for about one second, and beeps count down the last minutes and seconds.

With auto-repeat on, the countdown starts again from the start time at zero, up to eight times in all.

With auto-repeat off, it stops at zero and shows the start time again.
